The San Bartolomé City Council approved this Wednesday, during the first plenary session of the current year, the bases for granting new taxi licenses in the municipality.
From this moment on, interested people who work in discretionary transport can submit their documentation to apply for twelve new licenses in San Bartolomé.
The mayor of the municipality, Isidro Pérez, pointed out that “of which ten will be granted to vehicles adapted for people with reduced mobility (PRM) and two for ordinary licenses, so that, in addition, mobility, the use of public transport and accessibility in the municipality are improved.”
“With this, the final steps are taken to complete the procedure initiated in 2023 by the government team, with a study that estimated this number of places based on the needs of the municipality and that has not been able to advance until then,” explains the Councilor for Public Services, Roads, Transportation, Traffic and Environment, Raúl de León.
In the summer of 2024, the Government of the Canary Islands made an amendment to the Canary Islands Transport Decree Law that suspended the granting of both VTC and taxi licenses, despite the fact that the file initiated by the San Bartolomé City Council met all the requirements in order previously.
Now, after overcoming this phase and with the approval by the municipal corporation in plenary, it only remains for interested people to formally submit their application to close the procedure with the granting of these licenses.
