The Minister of Tourism of the Government of the Canary Islands, Rita Martín, inaugurated this Saturday at the Castle of San José, in Arrecife, the exhibition of the works presented to the ideas competition of the Congress Palace of Lanzarote, in which the proposal of Henning Larsen Architects and Carlos Morales Arquitecto, called Fractal, was the winner, and which will remain open to the public from last Saturday until March 22, from 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., seven days a week.
The inauguration was attended by the Regional Minister of Tourism herself, Rita Martín; the General Director of Tourist Infrastructure of the Ministry of Tourism of the Government of the Canary Islands, Sebastián Ledesma; the president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Manuela Armas; and the mayor of Arrecife, Enrique Pérez, among numerous personalities gathered as well as those responsible for the winning project, Carlos Morales Arquitecto and Henning Larsen Architects.
Fractal, the winning proposal, stood out among the rest of the works presented for its originality, adaptation to the program of needs, versatility, budget, energy efficiency criteria, incorporation of alternative energies and ease of maintenance and conservation of the building.
After a total of 52 participants were presented in the first phase, of the ten finalist preliminary projects, three have been drafted by international architecture studios, five national and two from the Canary Islands. Among those selected were the projects of Arquitectonia Proyectos de Europa S.L, Nieto Soberano Arquitectos and Menis Arquitecto S.L.
For the planning of the Lanzarote Congress Building, the experience in the congress palaces of Maspalomas and Magma Arte & Congresos was taken into account, as well as the studies of the latest buildings of these characteristics developed in Spain.
The Congress Palace of Lanzarote, for which a constructed area of 21,590 square meters has been allocated in Arrecife, will have an execution period of 30 months from the award of the work, once the negotiation and contract process has been developed, for which a maximum period of 60 days is estimated, as well as the drafting of the project, in 12 months.
The Minister of Tourism of the Canary Islands Executive expressed her satisfaction with the high quality of the projects presented, as well as the winning proposal, whose purpose is to respond to the needs of the congress, convention and incentive tourism sector, as well as cultural events.
The head of the Tourism area of the Government of the Canary Islands highlighted the high quality of all the projects presented and stressed that one of her priorities as Minister is to ensure that the Canary Islands have a network of quality infrastructure to promote congress tourism in the Islands, in addition to joining efforts working with public and private agents of the sector in the same direction.
