The VII National Congress of Nationalist Youth of the Canary Islands, which took place this Thursday, designated Raquel Castro as National Secretary-General of the Nationalist Youth of the Canary Islands (JVN) after approving her candidacy with nearly 80% of the votes.
In this regard, Raquel Castro has insisted that “assuming the General Secretariat of Nationalist Youth of the Canary Islands for the first time is, above all, a huge responsibility. Thanks to all the people who have trusted in me, in my team and in this project. I am starting a new stage with great enthusiasm and, above all, with a firm commitment to my generation. We have the challenge ahead of us to raise the voice of the young people of the Canary Islands, who demand opportunities, housing, employment and policies designed for us.”
“Canarian Coalition is, and must continue to be, the space where youth has a place, strength and influence. We are going to open doors, listen more and build collectively, from each island and each reality. This is not a personal project, it is a project of all those who believe in a Canary Islands with a future. Because we are the present that writes the future,” Castro insisted.
A committed team
The new Secretary-General will have the support of young people from all the islands, with diverse backgrounds and a common vision: to advance the Canarian Coalition project from the perspective and priorities of young people.
As part of the project, Castro will be accompanied by: Diana Lorenzo, in the National Deputy Secretariat General, and Álvaro Sánchez in the National Organization Secretariat. The National Executive Secretariats will be made up of Daniel Rivero, in Communication; Joel Arbelo, in Equality and Diversity; Tamara Brito, in Identity and Canarian Culture; María Alejandra Álvarez, in Political Strategy; Laura Pérez, in Disability; Cristina Calero, in Youth Policies and Higher Education, and Omar Reyes in Foreign Affairs.
Likewise, this event, which brought together more than a hundred young people, allowed debate around two presentations focused, on the one hand, on the Statutes, under the name 'The party model', defended by Ubay Pulido; and, on the other hand, that of Ideology, 'Nationalism as a tool for the challenges of Canarian youth', presented by Raquel Castro, in which she delved into the use of nationalism as an instrument for the political, economic and social transformation of our archipelago.
