The groups Partido de Independientes de Lanzarote (PIL), Coalición Canaria (CC) and Alternativa Ciudadana (AC 25) in the Teguise City Council have joined the request of the PSC-PSOE to the Government group to convene an extraordinary session of the Plenary dedicated to Costa Teguise. Only the Popular Party, also a member of the opposition, has rejected the possibility of debating with the municipal Executive on the problems of the tourist urbanization.
The signatories of the petition consider that "currently, the nucleus of Costa Teguise is in a deplorable situation, a fact denounced by many residents and business sectors in the area, and that, being a privileged tourist area and the engine of the municipality's economy, deserves a joint action plan by the Teguise City Council, the Lanzarote Cabildo, the Canary Islands Government and Costa Teguise businessmen".
They also recalled that the urbanization, with nearly 3,000 residents registered in the municipality, lacks basic public infrastructures and services, such as green areas or lighting, and has suffered in recent times a decline in facilities and the change of use from tourist accommodation to residential, with the consequent and serious deterioration of the area.
PSOE, PIL, CC and AC propose that all political forces represented in the Corporation of this municipality "work together to save Costa Teguise, taking into account that a tourism crisis will considerably affect the coffers of the City Council". The agenda of the extraordinary plenary session proposed by the opposition includes an analysis of the current situation of Costa Teguise; the search for solutions and action plans and the appearance of the President of the UCCT to report on the work carried out by this entity. In addition, "since the Government Group has been talking about Citizen Participation for a long time", they suggest that this Plenary be participatory, and that the opinions and proposals of the transport sectors, communities of owners, neighborhood associations or businessmen can be heard.
