Negotiations between Bruesa and the Ministry stall, and fears grow that the company will decide not to cede the completion of the rainwater works.

The Ministry of Environment and Rural and Marine Affairs continues to negotiate with the company awarded the contract for the Arrecife rainwater network works, Bruesa, after it committed to ceding the completion of the works to another company. However, for the moment it has not provided any solution in this regard, which increases the fear that Bruesa may end up not ceding the work, according to the general director of Water of the Government of the Canary Islands, Mariano de León.

Technicians from the Ministry of Environment traveled to the island two weeks ago, where they met with Bruesa, after the works were paralyzed again. The company then agreed to cede the completion of the works to another company, given the economic inability to continue with them. And there are numerous occasions in which the works have suffered stoppages since their inception, which has caused the works, which should have been completed in August of last year, to remain unfinished.

However, despite the fact that the general director of water of the Government of the Canary Islands, Mariano de León, stated that the name of the company that would be in charge of finishing the work would be known last week, the truth is that for the moment there is no new news in this regard and De León fears "the worst". "The more time passes, the clearer it is that something is not right. Either they don't want to cede the works or they are putting obstacles to the possible companies that would be in charge of the works," said the general director of Water of the Government of the Canary Islands.

"The prudential times have already been met. The city has been upside down for a long time and citizens don't care who is to blame, they just want the works to be finished," added De León.

Even so, De León has explained that it would be up to the Ministry of Environment to take the corresponding measures if this situation is prolonged over time. "It is the Ministry that must respond, because it is the one that awarded the work," he says. If an agreement is not finally reached, the procedure could be initiated to withdraw the award of the works to Bruesa, but it could take years to resolve.
