Nueva Canarias (NC) has denounced the "surreal situation" that the NGO Servicio Asistencial Canario (S.A.C.) is going through, after the members of this group addressed this party. According to the formation, the NGO complains about the "continuous boycott" and the "irregularities" by the councilor Jacobo Lemes. Therefore, from NC they have asked the mayor, Manuel Fajardo, for "common sense and to let the NGOs of Arrecife work".
NC has explained that, apparently, the "only inconvenience" for this NGO to carry out its services in Arrecife was the requirement of a civil liability insurance and registration in the Consortium, "issues that were resolved since their notification months ago".
"To deliver the documentation, these young people have tried to meet with the councilor on several occasions, being totally impossible since Lemes has no intention of doing so. They claim that a few days before the meeting, it is canceled by the councilor, alleging agenda problems. For a few months, the NGO S.A.C has also tried to meet with the mayor, without this being possible," Nueva Canarias has denounced.
From this NGO, which "only wants to be allowed to perform services such as those it had always performed within the municipality", they have stated that while the former Civil Protection coordinator was there, they "never" had "any problem". "The NGO states that Jacobo Lemes has assured them that as long as he remains a councilor in Arrecife, they will not perform any more services," Nueva Canarias has pointed out, which has insisted that the Department of Security and Emergencies "puts obstacles so that some excited young people with desire to work for others cannot perform their tasks".
According to NC, this NGO provides oncological accompaniment inside and outside the island, emergency and urgency service, home help for people without resources, preventive guards in sports events and festivals, among other services. From this formation they have requested that this NGO can continue working for the municipality "as soon as possible" and start again to perform "the noble work that it had always done before".
