Armando Santana, councilor of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, has met with representatives of the island's driving schools to address the "worrying situation that affects more than 200 people who cannot obtain their heavy vehicle driving license."
Since August, the Port Authority has prohibited access to the Puerto Naos enclosure, where truck, trailer and bus maneuvering exams were usually carried out, due to planned works in the area. This situation has left the group without a suitable place to carry out these exams, which are essential to obtain a heavy vehicle driving license.
Santana has highlighted the urgency of the situation: “At this time, and more specifically in Lanzarote, heavy vehicle drivers are needed. The demand is very high and new drivers cannot come out if the corresponding exams are not carried out. This is a growing problem”.
According to Santana, "private companies in the transport sector are financing the training of unemployed people to incorporate them into the sector, given the urgent need for more drivers on the island. However, the lack of a suitable place for maneuvering exams is paralyzing both passenger and freight transport."
Driving schools have adapted an enclosure in Costa Teguise, near the Aqua Park, to carry out the practices, using abandoned car parks and conditioning them within their possibilities.
"A temporary solution may be this place, if the asphalt and signs are repaired, adapting the place in an enclosure that meets all the guarantees not only to be able to do the practices but also for the demanded exams," confirm those affected.
However, those affected believe that the ideal would be to find a place closer to Arrecife.
