The Deputy Mayor and Councilor for Tourism and Culture of the Tías City Council, Mame Fernández, has proposed to recover the school restaurant in El Fondeadero, facilities that existed in this civic center of Puerto del Carmen and that "were dismantled in previous stages", the City Council notes in a statement.
Now, the Consistory has announced this Tuesday that Mame Fernández "is working on a feasibility project that integrates the collaboration and financing of Hotel Schools of the Canary Islands (Hecansa) and the tourism companies and business organizations of Lanzarote".
Fernández launched this initiative to tourism sector professionals at a recent working meeting held at the El Fondeadero facilities. Also present at this meeting were the general director of Hecansa, Pedro Calero, the president of Aetur and representatives of the Federation of Tourism Entrepreneurs of Lanzarote, among others.
"Involvement of the private sector"
Mame Fernández has highlighted that "for this objective to be materialized, the involvement and financing of the private sector and other public administrations of the island and the Canary Islands is necessary". The Councilor for Tourism of Tías has pointed out that "the Law for the Rationalization and Sustainability of the Local Administration marks the guidelines to follow for the implementation of a training project of this type".
For the mayor, a project of this nature is "very necessary" in a municipality "as touristy as Tías, with nearly half of the accommodation places in Lanzarote, and where hospitality and restaurant professionals need a tune-up and permanent qualification".
In this meeting with sector professionals, Mame Fernández presented his work team in the Tourism Area of the Tías City Council, and advanced "his lines of work and new projects to be launched by the City Council in terms of Tourism", they explain from the Consistory. Among these proposals, Fernández referred to "the improvement and strengthening of tourist information to visitors through Tourist Information points".
