The Cabildo of Lanzarote has started this week the installation of smart information panels for users at 43 bus stops which, in addition to offering updated information on routes and mobility, will allow "better management of intercity transport".

According to the Cabildo, the project is part of the sustainable urban development strategy called "Conurban Azul: urban quality and social cohesion of the municipalities of Teguise, Arrecife and San Bartolomé", with the investment being financed, amounting to 550,454.80 euros plus 38,531.84 euros of IGIC, by 85%, by the European Regional Development Fund within the framework of the multiregional operational program of Spain 2014-2020.

This action, they add from the Cabildo, is executed through the company 'CAPMAR Sistemas de Información S.L.', which has a completion period of "eight months". The work, according to the Corporation, aims to "improve information to users of regular intercity passenger transport, providing data on the real passing times of the lines, and achieve a sustainable development of the sector that contributes to the improvement of the environment and the rational and efficient use of road infrastructure".

The Cabildo of Lanzarote adds that in this way the traveler will receive "useful information", such as "what is the next bus that will arrive and how long it will take to do so in real time". In addition, they add that the panels "are prepared to warn the user about incidents that affect the service at each stop, such as the punctual suspension of a route, emergency alerts, extraordinary events, etc."

For the president of the Cabildo, María Dolores Corujo, "mobility and sustainability are the maxims of the government that I have the honor of presiding over. Hence, the improvement of public transport is an indispensable objective, so we reinforce our commitment to an intelligent, modern and sustainable information system through panels that are powered by solar energy and allow users to know in real time how long it will take for the next bus to arrive, as well as any incidents that affect the service."

The Minister of Transport, Marcos Bergaz, traveled to Playa Honda with the mayor of San Bartolomé, Isidro Pérez, where the first smart panels are being installed, to learn about "the status of the installation work of the first smart panels and the details of this system".

"We continue to advance in the modernization of public transport, materializing the actions contemplated in the European Project Conurban Azul, in this case the installation of smart panels, and also the upcoming launch of a new mobile application for users of a service increasingly demanded by tourists and users", Bergaz said.
