The approximately 700 Lanzarote students who are currently pursuing their university studies in Tenerife will now have a specific social headquarters where they can promote meeting, information and integration of these students.

This is a demand made by the Association of University Students of Conejeros to the Department of Education of the Cabildo of Lanzarote and that has found a satisfactory response with the signing of an agreement signed this Thursday by the President of the Cabildo, Pedro San Ginés, the Minister of Education and Culture, Francisco Cabrera, and the President of the AEUCO, Jacobo Medina.

The agreement, with a validity of one year from the signing, contemplates a contribution of 12,000 euros by the island institution to cover the expenses derived from the dynamization of the training activities that are organized. For its part, the student association will be responsible for the management of the headquarters and its care and maintenance.

Both for the President of the Cabildo and for the Minister of Education, "the implementation of this office or social headquarters was an educational priority of this government, not only because it is a request from our students, but because we understand that a meeting space is necessary where information on transportation aid procedures, scholarships, organization of courses can be channeled, which have their projection and affect the university community."

As planned, this office will begin operating in a few months and will offer services to university students from Lanzarote such as "internet connection, photocopies or educational talks, as well as the processing of scholarships," explained Jacobo Medina, president of AECU. It will be located in the historic center of La Laguna.

The intention of the Department of Education of the Cabildo is to continue "with this policy of attention to students and we will continue to collaborate and work together with the association to open other offices such as the one in Tenerife." The next one planned will be that of Gran Canaria, which, according to the efforts made by the association, will be located on the ULPGC University Campus itself.
