The Cabildo of Lanzarote presented this Friday the Interpretation Center "El Río" in La Graciosa, the first infrastructure on underwater archeology in the Canary Islands, framed within the Margullar project and focused primarily on the creation of a tourism product that values the underwater archaeological sites.

The presentation took place in the Parish Hall of the Eighth Island and was presided over by the Councilor for Heritage of the Island Council, Ariagona González.

González valued the relevance of this type of center for the development and conservation of the natural and cultural heritage of the Islands. "Both Lanzarote and La Graciosa have an enviable natural wealth and an underwater heritage that needs to be protected and disseminated among local citizens, as well as from other origins," said the councilor.

Also, the exhibition of "roll-ups" of Margullar was announced, which will remain in La Graciosa for a limited period of time.

The Margullar project, of the Territorial Cooperation Operational Program (Interreg V-A) Spain-Portugal (Madeira-Azores-Canary Islands [MAC] 2014-2020, co-financed with ERDF funds, focuses on the fourth axis of a large program, and this aims to conserve, value and disseminate maritime history through the underwater heritage of Macaronesia.
