The Cabildo of Lanzarote, through the Area of Social Welfare and Inclusion, has fully covered the expenses for people with disabilities to enjoy inclusive camps and family respite programs during the summer. This measure, articulated in collaboration with the municipalities of the island, aims to promote the right to leisure and inclusion of people with disabilities, while offering a necessary relief to caregiver families.
The president of the Cabildo, Oswaldo Betancort, has highlighted that "this line of aid is a sign of our commitment to inclusion and the well-being of families who face extraordinary challenges every day. From the Cabildo, we work so that no one is left behind, and that implies supporting initiatives that guarantee a dignified, accessible and happy summer also for those who need it most."
For her part, the Councilor for Social Welfare and Inclusion, Marci Acuña, emphasizes that "these programs not only favor the integration and socialization of children and young people with disabilities, but also provide a much-needed respite for families, especially for those who perform a constant and often invisible care work. We are committed to a fairer and more supportive Lanzarote, and this type of action goes in that direction."
Specialized Service for Inclusion and Social Intervention
The aids have been managed through the Social Emergency Aid Commission, allowing to fully cover the participation of people with disabilities in various summer initiatives promoted by social entities on the island.
"So far, eleven families have benefited from these aids for a total amount of 13,600 euros," details Marci Acuña, who emphasizes that "interested people can contact the Specialized Service for Inclusion and Social Intervention of the Cabildo to process these technical aids for disability, as well as other financial benefits aimed at guaranteeing the right to social protection of families in situations of social vulnerability."
This Specialized Service, which works with families and people who may be in a situation of vulnerability or at social risk, was inaugurated in November 2023, with the current mandate, and to date has served 2,200 users for the processing of Emergency Aid and for the referral and coordination of housing resources for homeless people.
Interested people or families can request more information and advice for the procedures by calling 928810100 ext: 3413, or by going in person to the offices located on Avenida Alcalde Ginés de la Hoz s/n, in Arrecife.
