Lanzarote en Pie-Sí Podemos considers unacceptable the position taken by the Mayor, Astrid Pérez, during the Extraordinary Plenary held last Saturday at the Arrecife City Council, which aimed to clarify the accounts on the expenses of the San Ginés 2019 festivities.
The Mayor, the highest authority of the Consistory, acknowledged that she has "no idea" about the details of the negotiation between the Cabildo of Lanzarote and the Arrecife City Council in the payment of the expenses of the patron saint festivities of the city she leads.
For the progressive formation, the fact that "the first representative of the municipal institution boasts of not having the slightest knowledge of how the organization of the main popular festival of Arrecife has been managed, nor of where the expenses have been derived, is an unjustifiable irresponsibility that demonstrates the weakness and fragmentation of the governing group of the island's capital".
The spokesperson for the municipal group, Leti Padilla, maintains that "it is a shame and a mockery of the people that the Mayor stated in the Plenary that she learned through the press of the agreement signed by the City Council of which she is the highest authority".
"Passing the buck and minimal responsibility"
For Lanzarote en Pie-Sí Podemos, "the attitude shown by the Mayor is nothing more than that shown by the rest of the attendees, shifting responsibility to third parties and with no intention of giving answers to the questions asked by the opposition as a whole. We left the plenary with more doubts than we had when we entered," says Padilla.
"It is unacceptable that public officials with political and management responsibility do not assume what corresponds to them," says the municipal spokesperson for Lanzarote en Pie-Sí Podemos. "The feeling that there is no leadership or political direction in the decision-making in the city council of the third capital of the Canary Islands is highly worrying," concludes Leti Padilla.
