The Casa Amarilla of the Cabildo of Lanzarote hosts the exhibition 'La Mirada Artesana' since September 24, a sample of the photographic work carried out by the photographer and documentalist Javier Reyes since the mid-twentieth century, which includes more than 17,000 negatives transferred by the author to Memorias de Lanzarote.

The inauguration was attended by María Dolores Corujo, the president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, accompanied by the councilor of the Data and Publications Center, Paula Corujo, the author of the work, Javier Reyes, and the curator of the exhibition, Mario Ferrer.

The president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, María Dolores Corujo, in her speech, wanted to thank the photographer "for his work as a documentalist of past life on the Island." "The work of Javier Reyes, a veteran 94-year-old photographer, is undoubtedly one of the most important legacies of the audiovisual heritage of Lanzarote and La Graciosa", said the president, who highlights "the importance of this exhibition to publicize part of the island's past."

In this exhibition, curated by Mario Ferrer, attendees "will be able to get closer to the daily intimacy of those who preceded them and contemplate everyday scenes of the past", related to field work, fishing tasks or popular festivals.

For her part, the councilor of the Data and Publications Center, Paula Corujo, pointed out the importance of "keeping alive the memory of who we were", since "only by knowing our past can we move towards a society more aware of the values and traditions that have led us to be the community we are today with our peculiar idiosyncrasy."

For his part, Javier Reyes, who was accompanied by part of his family, thanked the president and councilor for their presence and broke down "with a prodigious memory" each of the images. "It was a very beautiful time in which I tried to capture every detail; I feel proud to see my work exhibited here."

Under his honest gaze, Javier Reyes invites us to know where we come from. The work can be visited from Monday to Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
