Lanzarote finally has a new island director of Education. Juan Ramón Pérez Borges has been appointed by the Government of the Canary Islands to hold this position, after the formation of the new Executive of the archipelago, which left the vice-counselorship of this area in the hands of Manuela Armas from Lanzarote.
Although this appointment was expected for weeks, it was finally confirmed to La Voz this Wednesday by the press office of the Ministry of Education, one week before the start of the 2011-2012 school year.
Juan Ramón Pérez is the current director of the Teguise Institute and has also served as a socialist councilor in the La Villa City Council. Thus, in the 2003 elections he headed the PSOE list for this Consistory.
Pérez will replace the nationalist Juan Cruz, who has held this position for the last seven years.
