Juan Carlos Becerra will no longer be the president of PNL-Nueva Canarias in Lanzarote. This was announced this Wednesday by the Secretary of Organization of Nueva Canarias, Carmelo Ramírez, who assured that both Becerra and Pedro de Armas "will step aside", which does not mean "taking a step back". Ramírez held a meeting this Tuesday in Lanzarote, in which he assured that it was Becerra himself who proposed leaving the presidency, which will be assumed by "another person".
This meeting focused on the implementation of Nueva Canarias in Lanzarote. In this sense, Ramírez recalled that in the last party congress, the PNL adopted the agreement to "function as Nueva Canarias on the island of Lanzarote". The next step will be to hold an extraordinary congress, which is expected to take place in mid-December, for the election of the leadership of Nueva Canarias on the island of Lanzarote.
Ramírez has assured that at this meeting in Lanzarote, "significant progress was made regarding the criteria for the formation of the island leadership of Nueva Canarias." In this sense, he announced that "new faces" will enter the party, although he also acknowledged that it will be formed by "some who have been in politics for some time, but have been more involved in internal tasks than in institutions." "Other people now have trajectories away from politics and have joined again," he said on Radio Lanzarote-Onda Cero.
A "team" of "20 or 25 people"
Ramírez did not want to reveal any names of the people who will be part of this island leadership and has not given any clues about who will be in charge of Nueva Canarias in Lanzarote out of "respect" for the colleagues who are currently "making arrangements and forming the team."
The "team" will consist of about "20 or 25 people" in Lanzarote, who "will know the problems of the island well." Carmelo Ramírez has assured that Nueva Canarias "will not be occupied with the internal squabbles that exist today in the different institutions and parties, because it does not contribute to stability and to people who are having a hard time having hope for the future."
Thus, he explained that the policy of Nueva Canarias is to "dedicate the maximum time to the needs of Canarian society, such as unemployment, poverty, social exclusion, the strengthening of social services, or the reactivation of the economy."
