The airline Islas Airways, a company integrated in the Canary Special Zone (ZEC), has transported more than 275,000 travelers this year on its routes within the Archipelago, according to a statement. In this sense, last July 2005 obtained the best monthly results in its history, transporting 48,306 travelers, in which the trips made on the occasion of the Lustral Festivals of the Descent of the Virgin in La Palma played an important role. Thus, the route from Tenerife North to La Palma, one of the most productive for Islas Airways, experienced an increase of 14% during the month of July compared to the month of June, with a total of 17,438 travelers in the connections between Los Rodeos and Mazo.

The forecasts of the company's Board of Directors indicate that, if this rate continues, in 2005 it will be possible to double the number of displaced persons during 2004, which amounted to 308,423 displaced persons.

This means that, with five months to go before the end of the year, Islas has managed to reach 86.6% of the 2004 total, with a total of 752,725 passengers since the company began operating in March 2003. For this reason, its managers expect to reach one million customers during 2005, which would mean a growth rate of more than 300% since its foundation. The company considers this evolution as "a spectacular improvement for the Canarian company".

According to the press release, these "good results are the product of its investment policy and its commitment to the quality of service developed by Islas since its birth, which is evident in the increase of its fleet and its aeronautical capacity, which currently stands at four ATR aircraft". The company plans to increase this fleet soon.

The opening of the new direct route between Fuerteventura and Tenerife North has also contributed to the results indicated, according to the analysis made by the company. During its first month it obtained a total of 2,564 travelers. Although in principle it is proposed as a temporary connection for the summer period, Islas contemplates its conversion into a permanent and direct route between Los Rodeos and the airport of Majorera
