The Court of Social Affairs number 1 of Arrecife hosted this Thursday a new trial in relation to the strike that the ground service workers of Iberia carried out during 2005. Specifically, the Labor Inspection of the Government of the Canary Islands aimed to demonstrate that foreign employees were brought to perform this work, which is considered an illegal transfer of workers.

The trial has been seen for sentencing after the presentation of documentary and testimonial evidence. Within the latter, the Iberia delegate in Lanzarote, Juan Antonio González, indicated that although these workers were only in the hold of the planes "it is a part of the handling service."

The lawyer of the Labor Inspection argued that it is a case of illegal transfer of workers because at that time only Iberia could develop the handling service in Guacimeta. Likewise, he concluded that the rules on employee displacement must be respected and that not even a contract was accredited "which in any case could not have existed due to the very fact that only Iberia could do that work."

For their part, Iberia and Hapag-Lloyd and Rhomson Fly (the latter two are companies that brought their workers) assured that the employees never left the holds of the plane with foreign registration, that they did not use Iberia's material, did not mix with the workers and did not receive orders from Iberia's employees.
