Five new tractors to sand the land devastated by the Delta

Five new tractors are being added to the fleet of the Island Agricultural Mechanization Service of the Department of Agriculture of the Cabildo, to improve the services offered to farmers. A machinery that will be in high demand in a few days, when the sanding work that the Delta took away from the fields of Lanzarote begins.

The new machinery, acquired by the Island Council at a cost of 253,000 euros, consists of four tractors and a threshing machine, from the company John Deere. These five tractors are in addition to the seven already available to the Department of Agriculture.

This Thursday, the new tractors were presented at the Tahíche Experimental Agricultural Farm with the presence of the Minister of Agriculture, Higinio Hernández, and the President of the Cabildo, Inés Rojas, who did not miss the opportunity to get on the newly purchased threshing machine.

For just over 4 euros per hour, any farmer who needs it can request the services of one of the 11 tractors and agricultural machinery available to the Island Agricultural Mechanization Service. The Minister of Agriculture, Higinio Hernández, believes that these new machines arrive at an important moment, just when the work of sanding the cultivated fields that the tropical storm Delta took away, begins in a few days. "These tractors are going to be in high demand by farmers because, due to the misfortune of the Delta, the Cabildo will begin the work of re-sanding the fields in the coming days".

On Wednesday afternoon, Inés Rojas traveled to the Los Rodeos mountain, where the sand that will be used to cover the cultivated land that was lost at the end of November is already being screened. The president declared that this expansion of the fleet has been highly demanded by farmers "because they said that the service did not reach them" and believes that it is necessary to "keep the cultivated fields clean".
