The Ministry of Education, Universities, Culture and Sports of the Government of the Canary Islands and the Yaiza City Council agreed to the municipal transfer to the Executive of the Children's School next to the CEIP Playa Blanca to offer places to boys and girls from 2 to 3 years old for the academic year 2023 - 2024. The mayor, Óscar Noda, explains that “we ceded the fully equipped nursery with the idea of expanding places in future courses from zero years and covering the entire first cycle of Infant”.
Yaiza advocates providing coverage in the short term to newborn children, although it values the opening of the nursery “with this first experience to offer an already highly demanded service”. The president recalled that “there have been many problems that we encountered with this project that was born with deficiencies from its drafting, deficiencies that have involved eternal bureaucratic procedures and technical corrections that have lengthened its commissioning over time”.
Óscar Noda highlights that “being a municipality of less than 20,000 inhabitants and lacking powers in Education, we considered the transfer to the Government of the Canary Islands with the Minister Manuela Armas, who has understood the situation, and that is what we have done once the technical inspection of the nursery has been resolved. The Minister knows that our objective is for the School to be able to care for children from zero years old”.
The CEIP Playa Blanca, which manages registrations for students aged 2 to 3 years (born in 2021), informs that the application period for places is established from April 13 to 27. The necessary documentation for registrations and all the information is published on the CEIP Playa Blanca website.
