The low-cost airline Easyjet announced that tickets are now on sale on its website for this new year 2008 to fly from Madrid to the island of Lanzarote. During this new year, the airline, one of the leaders in the low cost sector, will offer a total of 56,575 seats to travel between the capital of the Spanish State and the island of volcanoes, the first in the Canary Archipelago to receive a stopover during 2007.
This novelty stands out on the Easyjet website where the firm confirms that it will fly to Lanzarote every day from Madrid to Lanzarote between the months of January and December 2008.
Low cost, engine of Barajas
The low-cost companies that operate at Barajas Airport account for 10.71% of the total number of passengers, a percentage that demonstrates the rapid growth of the implementation of these companies if one takes into account that in less than two years they have gone from representing almost 5% to the current 10.71%.
In this sense, EasyJet stands as the first low-cost company that operates in Barajas with 2 million passengers in 2007, which represents a growth of 100% compared to last year. From the base that easyJet has in Madrid, operational since last February, the company has 24 routes, with a strong commitment to domestic flights.
Barajas, in the top ten
The constant growth figures registered especially by the rise and consolidation of low-cost companies have allowed Madrid-Barajas to become one of the most important international airports in the world in recent years. In fact, last year 2006 it was the thirteenth airport in the world by number of passengers according to the world ranking prepared by Airport Council International (ACI), as well as the fifth in Europe by number of passengers and fourth by volume of operations.
Easyjet will fly from England to Lanzarote in 2008
The low-cost airline Easyjet announced today on its website that for next summer it will operate another 32 routes (under the GB Airways brand) from the airports of Gatwick (London) and Manchester, which include flights to destinations in Lanzarote.
In a statement issued from London, the company, European leader in low-cost flights, said that with the new year its customers will have 32 destinations, operated by GB Airways, whose purchase Easyjet agreed last October for 103.5 million pounds (about 148 million euros).
GB Airways is based at London's Gatwick airport and flies to southern Europe and North Africa under a franchise agreement with British Airways (BA).
It is intended that GB Airways will continue to operate all routes under the British Airways brand until March 29, and from that moment, GB flights will operate under the name of Easyjet.
Among the routes offered by Easyjet from Gatwick are destinations such as Sharm El Sheikh, the Canary Islands (Tenerife, Lanzarote, Gran Canaria), Corfu or Turkey and also Ibiza, Palma de Mallorca, Mahón (Menorca) and Malaga.
In total, EasyJet will offer 66 routes from Gatwick and another six from Manchester Airport (in the north of England).
The company also points out that before winter 2008, GB Airways will be fully integrated within the Easyjet model.
