The mayor of Arrecife, Cándido Reguera, and the representative of Construcciones y Excavaciones Erriberri, S.L., the company awarded the contract for the
demolition of the La Rocar warehouses, signed the
contract for the demolition of the old fish warehouses, which will have to
be effective within a period of less than two months. It is from June 15
of this year when the company is obliged to start the work,
after submitting the work plan and verifying the
stakeout.
According to the contract signed by both managers, within a period not exceeding
two months from the date of formalization of the contract, the
stakeout verification will be carried out. Likewise, the
awarded company must prepare a work plan, which establishes
the minimum health and safety provisions applicable to work
with risk of exposure to asbestos. This plan must be submitted by
the contractor to the labor authority for approval.
The document also makes it clear that the demolition will not affect
zone 2 because its execution is subject to a subsequent report from the
technicians of the Heritage Service of the Cabildo. Similarly, it
specifies that "under no circumstances" will machinery or operators pass
over the salt flats, nor will materials, rubble or anything else be stockpiled
in them, and the outline of these salt flats must be delimited
with yellow fencing or tape.
The contracting table of the Arrecife City Council agreed at the time to definitively award the contract to carry out the demolition works of the warehouses and annexes of La Rocar, in the Islote del Francés, to the company Construcciones y Excavaciones Erriberri S.L., the favorite since the first meeting of the contracting table held for this purpose.
Of the 14 companies that submitted their offers with a starting bid
price of 773,870.65 euros and an execution period of six months, the
valuation report prepared by the Technical Office gave the highest
score to Construcciones y Excavaciones Erriberri S.L., which has offered
the demolition of these warehouses for a price of 327,347.28 euros and an execution period of 75 days.
In addition to the mayor, Cándido Reguera Díaz, and the councilors belonging
to the PIL and the PNL, Eduardo Lasso and Isabel Martinón, respectively, are
part of that Contracting Table of the Arrecife City Council, the councilors
of the opposition, Luis Morales of CC, Alberto Morales of the PSOE and Ginés de
Quintana of Alternativa Ciudadana.
Santiago Calatrava Building
From now on, a period of time opens up until all the procedures are formalized and the demolition works of the old
fish warehouses begin. Likewise, the work to
dismantle and transport the asbestos roofs that require
special treatment off the island is pending.
The Arrecife City Council communicated to the owner of the Islote del Francés, Jaime Cortezo, from the first meeting held with this businessman from Gran Canaria, its intention to demolish the La Rocar warehouses, the
old fish cannery that is located within the Islote, and
pass him the bill for the demolition. In that same meeting, the capital city government group proposed to the aforementioned businessman an
"emblematic building for Lanzarote and the entire Canary Islands", which would preside over the area of the Islote del Francés in the future, made by a renowned architect such as Santiago Calatrava, who has shown his willingness to visit Lanzarote and sign that future icon of Arrecife.
