The Councilor for Economy and Finance of Arrecife, Cristina Duque, has denied the accusations of the Canarian Coalition and has assured that the PSOE “has been in all the Government Boards”, contrary to what Echedey Eugenio maintained, who branded them as "irresponsible" for having been absent from the last session. In this regard, Duque has specified that the only one who missed that Board was her, but for medical reasons, and has stressed that the other PSOE councilor who is part of this body did attend.
"I am somewhat convalescent from a fall I suffered and precisely that day I had an appointment, but I justified it perfectly to whoever I had to justify it to in this case, which is the mayor," explained the socialist councilor. "CC has us used to this, to this kind of opposition, and what we will do is laugh, but outside the plenary session, because the citizens deserve respect," she added.
In addition, she has attributed the criticisms of CC - which also accused them of trying to block projects of the City Council - to an attempt to destabilize the pact between the PSOE and the PP in Arrecife. "In the opposition bench it is very cold and they are looking for a point of friction in the government group and they are not achieving it nor will they achieve it, because the objective is that all the projects for the municipality of Arrecife come out and of course the institutional stability, which is so necessary at this time," Duque defended.
In this regard, she has questioned that stability is something to which they are "not used to" in the Canarian Coalition, recalling that in the past legislature “they left the government group and started to do opposition”. In addition, she has accused the nationalists and their spokesperson, Echedey Eugenio, of "turning the Plenary into a circus".
Regarding that alleged absence in the Government Board, in addition to denying it, insisting that the PSOE was represented, the councilor has stressed that this would not prevent approving any project either. "For all the points that are taken to the Government Board to come out, what is needed is the quorum," she recalled, referring to the need for a minimum number of members to be present. Thus, she explained that when some reason forces a councilor to be absent, they have always "organized" so that this quorum can be reached.
"In all the government boards that have been held in these two years, all the procedures have gone through. It is true that sometimes we do not agree with everything because documents are missing, but that has been said, it has been discussed what the PSOE's vote is," she added, also sending a message about the stability of the government. "The citizens can rest assured, which is what worries me and not what CC may say, because all the procedures, the projects go forward and it is reflected in the municipality of Arrecife".
