The candidate of the Canarian Coalition for the Mayoralty of the Tías City Council, Amado Vizcaíno, considers the press conference offered this week by the PSOE, "in which the Minister of Education of the Government of the Canary Islands, Manuela Armas, and the president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, María Dolores Corujo, announced the launch of new educational, cultural and sports infrastructures that, evidently, will not see the light in the present mandate" to be an “authentic joke”.
“We know for a fact that the PSOE's word is worthless”, Vizcaíno points out, stating that “amid so many promises, the councilor and the president forgot to mention that the Puerto del Carmen nursery school has been completely abandoned for two years thanks to the inefficiency, disinterest and inability to manage of the mayor of Tías”.
Likewise, the spokesperson for CC in the Consistory points out that "until now the Government of the Canary Islands has only rejected every attempt by the Canarian Coalition to allocate a budget item for the adaptation of the aforementioned educational infrastructure, as demonstrated by the non-approval (for the second consecutive year) of the 400,000 euros requested for this purpose in one of the amendments presented by the Lanzarote parliamentarians of the Nationalist Group".
“The mayor has only responded with evasions when asked about the breach of what the PSOE itself approved in plenary session with the arrogance of saying that we were late and that they had already taken steps to adapt the Puerto del Carmen nursery school to regulations and open it to the public”, Vizcaíno clarifies, who describes it as insulting that “they intend to make us believe that there are already enough places with the 18 in the Puerto del Carmen school and as many in the Tías town school, when the municipality has more than 20,000 inhabitants and when these places are for children from 2 years old”.
“What about those younger?, Should families be forced to go to private nurseries?” The nationalist candidate asks, who insists that the only thing to do is to transfer the Puerto del Carmen nursery school to the Ministry of Education and that it take charge of implementing the stage of early childhood education.
“Only in this way can the demand of the residents be met. We need policies aimed at those of us who live in the municipality, not just for tourists”, he asserts. "It should be remembered that when the Puerto del Carmen nursery school first opened its doors, it did so as one of the first public municipal nurseries of the time," he adds.
However, Amado Vizcaíno adds that “the mayor, who was also José Juan Cruz at the time, privatized it in the form of a cooperative and the residents lost all rights. And it was at the beginning of his new mandate in 2019, when he ended up closing and abandoning it. Without a doubt, second parts were never good and this new stage of the current mayor is being disastrous”.
