The Nationalist Group (CC-PNC-SB) in the Cabildo of Lanzarote has accused the island's president, the socialist María Dolores Corujo, of once again "mocking the opposition groups, by rejecting, for the second time, the request for an extraordinary plenary session to analyze the cost overruns of this year's edition of the capital city's San Ginés festivities."
"The first time we registered it (October 2) they forced us to withdraw it because, they said, we were requesting too many appearances, and now that we have reduced them to two, that is no longer the problem but a mere formality," lamented the representative of the nationalists in the Finance and Contracting Commission, Samuel Martín, who states that he suspects that "the approach of so many impediments is because they have a lot to hide and intend to avoid at all costs that the debate is held before the elections."
Thus, the Nationalist Group in the Cabildo insists that "the difficulty that Mª Dolores Corujo now sees in holding the requested plenary session no longer lies in the content." "However, the government group is hiding behind the fact that when registering the request through the electronic headquarters, it should have been done as a request and not as a request for access to information," they point out.
"Are they pulling our leg? Are they trying to bore us and give up? Well, we are not going to do it, because there is a lot of public money at stake that directly affects the pockets of the citizens of this island," emphasizes the representative of CC-PNC-SB.
Denounces the "tricks" of the government group
The nationalists denounce in this way "the tricks that the PSOE-PP government group is using to try to exhaust the 15-day period foreseen to be able to make the call, thus forcing the session to be held once the electoral period has passed."
In this regard, CC-PNC-SB points out that "the controversy over this year's edition of the Arrecife patron saint festivities was unleashed, in the first place, by the very high cost of the same, which the opposition puts at more than 800,000 euros."
"This controversy led to an extraordinary plenary session of the capital city's City Council that did not clarify any of the doubts raised by the opposition and that, in addition, shifted the focus of responsibility towards the Cabildo of Lanzarote, an institution that contributed 325,000 euros for the realization of different events, concerts and activities," the nationalists point out.
In this sense, they point out that "two months later, no one has clarified whether those 325,000 euros should be returned to the Cabildo, as the president herself stated and the capital city's mayor denied, nor what process was followed for the contracting of lighting and sound." "Nor has it yet been explained why the head of the Cabinet of the Presidency of the Cabildo and the then Councilor for Festivities are responsible (without any technician) for the Monitoring Commission of the contract, all issues that the government group of Mª Dolores Corujo wants to continue hiding," they conclude.
