CC and Podemos have joined forces to request an extraordinary plenary session to "try to clarify" various issues related to this year's San Ginés festivities, which were organized and financed by both the Arrecife City Council and the first island institution through a collaboration agreement.
In the plenary session, the opposition will request the appearance of the Councilor for Security and Emergencies, the Councilor for Culture, the Councilor for Contracting, the Vice President, and the President of the Cabildo, "in addition to the person in charge of the collaboration agreement between the institutions, Carlos Espino Angulo".
In a statement, CC and Podemos point out that "the controversy over this year's edition of the Arrecife patron saint festivities was unleashed, first of all, by the very high cost of the same", which the opposition puts "at more than 800,000 euros". "This controversy led to an extraordinary plenary session of the capital's City Council that did not clarify any of the doubts raised by the opposition and that, in addition, shifted the focus of responsibility to the Cabildo of Lanzarote, an institution that contributed 325,000 euros for the realization of different events, concerts and activities", they add.
The opposition groups in the first institution consider that, "out of respect for the citizens, it is necessary to clarify whether those 325,000 euros should be returned to the Cabildo, as the president herself pointed out and the capital's mayor denied, what process was followed for the contracting of lighting and sound, or why the head of the Cabinet of the Presidency of the Cabildo and the then Councilor for Festivities are responsible (without any technician) for the Monitoring Committee of the contract".
