Canalejas Street already has damage on the same day it was opened to traffic

Canalejas Street in Arrecife was opened to traffic this Thursday, after carrying out the works integrated in the remodeling of the historic center of the capital of Lanzarote that affect this road. Like Canalejas, traffic has been re-established on Alférez Cabrera Tavío street, although the latest touch-ups are still being carried out in the surrounding areas. But despite the fact that these central streets are practically finished, right on the day they are opened there is already damage.

This is the case of some stone bollards on Canalejas street, which on Thursday morning appeared broken or semi-uprooted. The Councilor for Public Works of the capital, Luis Morales, draws attention by asking for more responsibility from drivers because "I myself saw how a person was trying to park their vehicle between two of the bollards on Canalejas".

The bollards have been placed in order to "determine the pedestrian zones and car circulation, as well as beautify", says Morales. Therefore, the councilor understands that some trucks may have some problems, but believes that the damage has been caused "by vehicles trying to park in prohibited areas, because it is not the corners, but bollards in straight areas". The bollards, according to the councilor, "are not fragile, they are not uprooted just like that", so he deduces that it is about forced maneuvers to be able to park the cars. Finally, the Councilor for Public Works made a call to citizens and warned "that if there were no bollards, you could not walk peacefully through the center".

Meanwhile, the restructuring works of the roads in the center of Arrecife are now focused on José Antonio Street, one of the main arteries that crosses a city that is traveled daily by 60,000 vehicles. The problem of José Antonio street, whose works have an execution period of two months, is that also at night, especially on weekends, it is a nightlife area with a large influx of young people.

On the morning of this Thursday, the road was closed to traffic to proceed with the measurement work that will result in a widening of sidewalks, repaving and the placement of the rainwater network and lighting. These works are the reason why Canalejas Street and Alférez Cabrera Tavío have been completely opened, through which the traffic in the city center is now decongested.
