The president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Oswaldo Betancort, has responded to citizen complaints in recent months due to the "deficient service" in the offices that depend on the General State Administration. The criticisms focus on the difficulty of accessing an appointment at the offices of the National Institute of Social Security, Traffic or Immigration.

Therefore, Betancort has requested a meeting with the Government delegate in the Canary Islands, Anselmo Pestana, to request that "effective and immediate measures" be taken with the aim of resolving the deficient citizen service in the island offices that depend on the Central Administration.

"The citizens of Lanzarote and La Graciosa deserve dignified attention from the administration. What is unacceptable is that in order to request an appointment at the offices of the Social Security Institute or Traffic, citizens are completely unable to do so because the attention is totally deficient or non-existent, on many occasions," laments Betancort.

The president hopes that appropriate actions will be taken to improve citizen service and thus guarantee prior appointments, whether by telephone or in person, for the processing of health benefits, pensions, as well as other matters related to Traffic or work permits, residence or family reunification in the Immigration offices.

"Unfortunately," explains Oswaldo Betancort, "since the pandemic we have been dragging serious problems for users to make appointments at these offices, especially the elderly and more vulnerable, so we demand that the State guarantee effective and quality care."
