The president of the Popular Party of Lanzarote, Astrid Pérez, expresses her "concern about the progressive loss of quality" that is occurring in the air transport service in Lanzarote since the conflict of air traffic controllers with the company that manages the control tower of the César Manrique Lanzarote airport began in February of last year.

“A latent conflict, which still persists, and which in the end everyone pays for the passengers because they are the ones who are really being affected by the repeated delays in both national and international flights,” says Pérez.

Pérez asks herself "what is the Government of Pedro Sánchez doing", specifically the Ministry of Development, and AENA with respect to this situation that, she emphasizes, "has lasted almost a year". “It is essential that citizens be informed about the negotiations or actions that are being carried out to put an end to the effects and damages that this labor conflict is causing to the island and its citizens.”

The leader of the Popular Party also regrets the “silence and inaction” of the Sánchez Executive in this regard, as well as "the role of the national public officials of the Socialist Party, senator and deputies, who seem to be on the sidelines of any intermediation."

Astrid Pérez recalls that "passengers travel daily from Lanzarote to other islands, either for work or for medical reasons", and “it cannot be that users are missing their appointments or that every time they have to fly they do so with the uncertainty of whether or not they will arrive on time to their destination because the delays accumulate and they do not receive any explanation.”

The party recalls the "persistence of disagreements between the workers and the company regarding the new collective agreement is generating a serious problem for the operability of the airport itself", the eighth in the country in terms of passenger volume and "now the fifth in Europe but in delays."

"It should be remembered that César Manrique Lanzarote was part of the first phase of privatization of air traffic services of the control towers carried out at the end of 2010 by the second government of José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero, with José Blanco at the head of the Ministry of Development. The measure then affected 12 Spanish airports and the release of 7 more is currently pending, including the three control towers that continue with public management in the Canary Islands: Tenerife Norte, Tenerife Sur and Gran Canaria", concludes the PP.
