The Department of Education of the Arrecife City Council, in its objective to "promote values of inclusion and personal development in the municipality's educational centers", screened the documentary Roots this Monday, November 19, at the Youth House, a work that reflects the transformative power of inclusive dance and the artistic work of people with and without functional diversity.

The activity, organized in two sessions, was aimed at 5th and 6th grade students. In the first session, from 09.30 to 10.30, students from the 5th grade of CEIP Argana Alta and CEIP Antonio Zerolo participated. The second, from 11:30 to 12:30, was aimed at 6th grade students from CEIP Capellanía del Yágabo and CEO Argana.

The project, promoted by the Diversos collective, aims to make visible the integration of people with functional diversity through the performing arts. "With initiatives like this, we intend to show young people that diversity is not a limit, but a wealth that unites us and transforms us as a society, because we are all equal," said Abigail González.

In the coming days, this experience will be complemented with dance workshops in the schools themselves for the participating courses. These activities will allow students to explore dance as a tool for expression, inclusion and the strengthening of values such as empathy, cooperation and mutual respect.

The documentary Roots and the workshops connect directly with the Sustainable Development Goals of the 2030 Agenda, such as the promotion of health and well-being and the reduction of inequalities. In addition, they promote active participation in culture, contributing to making Arrecife a more inclusive and accessible city.

González stresses that this activity not only enriches the students, but also creates a solid foundation for the development of a more tolerant and cohesive society. "From the Department of Education we will continue working to ensure that access to culture and art is a right for all and a key tool in building a fairer future."
