The Arrecife City Council presented this Wednesday, May 18, the event called "Nights of Humor", which has been organized by the municipal council and that during the next four Thursdays - May 19 and 26 and June 2 and 9 - will offer performances by Canarian comedians Kike Pérez, Aarón Gómez, Omayra González and Petite Lorena.
In her speech, the mayor of Arrecife, Astrid Pérez, highlighted the importance of this event "which during the next month will turn Arrecife into the capital of humor in the Canary Islands." "It will contribute to fulfilling our slogan of reversing the situation of culture in Arrecife, decentralizing it so that it also reaches the neighborhoods, because let's not forget that humor is culture," she adds.
Pérez took the opportunity to highlight the importance of the comedians who make up the Nights of Humor lineup. "They are professionals with a lot of talent, dedicated to the complicated art of making people laugh and who were so important during the confinement, when they encouraged us during those long days with their ideas through social networks," says the mayor.
For his part, the Councilor for Events and Development, Maciot Cabrera, pointed out that the idea of organizing this event arises "after emerging from the pandemic with the need to promote the economic and social development of Arrecife" and, in this sense, pointed to the desire to do so with Canarian artists "in four of the most populous neighborhoods of Arrecife." "One of the objectives of this government group is the revitalization of the neighborhoods and to transfer to them, as far as possible, all that offer that the rest of the citizens of the municipality enjoy," adds the councilor.
To this end, the City Council indicates that seats will be provided for a capacity of five hundred people in each of the shows "which will be occupied in strict order of arrival until the capacity is reached."
The show "Nights of Humor" will begin this Thursday, May 19 in the Plaza Pío XII of Titerroy, with the performance of Omayra Cazorla. Subsequently, on Thursday, May 26, the performance of Aarón Gómez is scheduled, which will take place in the Plaza de Altavista, while on Thursday, June 2, in the Plaza del Pabellón de Deportes de Argana, it will be the turn of Petite Lorena from La Palma.
Finally, it is planned that the grand finale to these days of humor will be given by Kike Pérez from Lanzarote, who will perform on Thursday, June 9 in the Plaza de Valterra. All performances have been scheduled for 9:00 p.m.
The City Council indicates that all the shows will be broadcast by streaming in the hospitality and leisure businesses that want to join the circuit, with the aim of "dynamizing the business fabric of this sector, one of the most affected by the health situation that we have suffered over the last years."
Invited artists
Kike Pérez
Comedian from Lanzarote and one of the best in the archipelago, due to his career of more than 15 years on stage. His spontaneity, closeness and charisma are the main weapons of this comedian who does not hesitate to bare his soul in any of the projects in which he is involved.
He was a physical education teacher, but when he stopped playing sports, he gained weight. It can be considered that his weight has given him fame - he even stars in a series called Grasa - but it has also established his limit when it comes to making humor.
What Kike is clear about is that his career is not sustained by being fat, he has the talent to make humor out of any stage of life.
He is considered a versatile and extroverted character who has worked in theater, film and television, being in the latter, together with Aaron Gómez, part of the cast of "Sota, caballo y rey" on Televisión Canaria. In addition, he co-directs and represents various plays and participates as an actor in various film projects of level.
Omayra Cazorla
Thirty-year-old from Gran Canaria who started writing her monologues a few years ago, while studying Dramatic Art. Bars, halls, theaters, streets, auditoriums and squares; any space is convertible to her monologues where she adapts and improvises directly with the environment and the spectator. In addition, she is a Social Worker specialized in marginalization and exclusion.
It is no secret that making others laugh is very complicated, but she achieves it with ingenuity, naturalness, charisma, passion, originality and above all, paying special attention to everyday situations. It is from there that she builds her monologues, based on the day to day, on the actions and everyday situations of the world and those who inhabit it. She is inspired by her experiences and what people tell her. The key, without a doubt, is to observe.
She has also realized that comedy is an ideal tool to build a better society. That is why we have seen her in charitable activities and she always addresses very current issues from humor. She is pure energy in motion, with a lot of intensity and passion and that character that characterizes her, with a grotesque and natural style.
Aarón Gómez
Canarian comedian and actor of 39 years, known for his excellent ability to improvise and make people laugh almost unintentionally. His humorous career began more than ten years ago in Tenerife, passing through television and countless stages. That is why he is one of the best comedians in the Canarian scene.
His creativity, spontaneity, mimicry and body expressions are the ingredients of his success, as he has a large number of followers on social networks and sells out all the tickets for every stage he steps on.
The comedian also has experience as a presenter on Radio Millenium, within a novel humor space called Radio Banana. On television he has participated in El Día TV, in the program Esta Noche with a semi-improvised sketch weekly, and in the program "Sota, Caballo y Rey" on Televisión Canaria.
Aarón has described his humor as "rascal and fluid". "I let it come out alone, I don't force it, I don't prepare it too much, I trust that the heart knows how to beat alone as laughter knows how to go out for a walk alone", he says.
Petite Lorena
Lorena González Orribo (1978, Maracay) is a film and television actress, comedian by vocation.
Petite Lorena has performed for more than fifteen years in clubs, halls, stages, popular festivals, theaters and televisions throughout Spain. She has consolidated her career on the basis of hard work, also known as the "3T" (work, work and work). She has combined her one-person shows with her career in film and television with directors such as Juan Carlos Falcón (La Caja); Antonia San Juan (Del lado del Verano) or Félix Sabroso and Dunia Ayaso (Mujeres), a TVE series produced by El Deseo Film.
In our community, Petite Lorena has been a regular collaborator in various programs of La Televisión Canaria and at the national level she was chosen as a collaborator by the presenter Pepe Navarro of "La sonrisa del Pelícano" or "Esta noche cruzamos el Mississippi", for his Late Night "Ruffus y Navarro" on TVE.
Petite Lorena has that gift of the great comedians: everything she tells, no matter how rehearsed she has it, sounds fresh, natural, as if she were improvising, as if she were entertaining a group of friends, no matter if it is in theaters, halls, squares or in the middle of a street. She tells as if everything had happened to her, such is her closeness, her empathy with the public and her control and her scenic energy. Her wit, her daring and her ingenuity are unmatched, as far as I know, in the panorama of our country.
