The Arrecife City Council is reinforcing the provision of essential services to the most vulnerable people with more resources and new hires. Now, from this Tuesday, March 17, the Social Services Area of the capital has made available to the elderly who live alone, without descendants or relatives on the island, the services of a psychologist and a social worker to reinforce their basic needs, companionship and emotional support in these weeks.
These workers, who have been hired to reinforce the current service offered by the City Council for Home Help to the elderly and dependent people, have been able to offer their services to the City Council after the declaration of social emergency decreed this past weekend by the mayor of Arrecife. With this administrative mechanism provided for by law, local institutions can hire in an agile and direct way to respond to citizen emergencies.
The professionals will assist permanently, in homes and by telephone, the elderly who live alone. They will provide emotional support, and will be available to this group to guarantee their food purchases, go to pharmacies, accompany them to health centers if necessary, or give them company in their homes so that they do not feel isolated, since they cannot go out to the street due to the declaration of alert, and the obligation of confinement in their respective homes.
Catering service
The mayor of Arrecife, Ástrid Pérez, and the Councilor for Social Services, Equality and Immigration, María Jesús Tovar, have activated other measures to promote and guarantee care for the most vulnerable people.
Since this Monday, a catering company is carrying out, commissioned by the Arrecife City Council, a home service to guarantee the basic food of the children who had Fee 0 (vulnerable and families without economic resources) in the school canteens. The mayor has confirmed that the City Council will maintain this service while the alert and confinement situation lasts in their homes to stop the spread of the coronavirus.
Along with this catering service for minors, Arrecife also offers since this Monday the basic food for the elderly who live alone, without descendants or relatives on the Island.
