Antonio Maldonado will finally receive the scholarship from the Ministry of Education that was denied to him up to three times. The student, orphaned of his father and without close family to help him, will have this scholarship to pay for tuition, "thanks to the mediation" of national deputy Francisco Cabrera. In addition, a person from Lanzarote anonymously donated 1,000 euros to him last week so that he could continue his studies.

The Association of University Students of Conejeros (Aeuco) has reported that "apparently there was an error in the program that manages the scholarships of the Ministry of Education." As a result of "the lack of communication" between the Ministry and the University of La Laguna, where Maldonado is studying Law, "the scholarship was denied up to three times."

National deputy Francisco Cabrera learned of this case, called Antonio Maldonado, and even "personally spoke with the Minister of Education, José Ignacio Wert," according to Aeuco. In addition, the Association explained that Cabrera "has been in constant contact with the vice-rector of students at the University of La Laguna."

The deposit, in "a month and a half"

After these efforts, Maldonado will finally be a beneficiary of this study grant. However, he must wait 10 days for the notification to arrive, but Aeuco has indicated that "everything points to it being favorable."

"Apparently, the scholarship was favorable from the beginning. God willing, the young student can be admitted in approximately a month and a half, along with the rest of the income corresponding to university students who are waiting for said aid," he said.

Antonio Maldonado wanted to thank "all those people" who have contributed money so that "his career would not be frustrated." First, the recognition was for the person who anonymously donated 1,000 euros to him, after listening to his interview on Radio Lanzarote. Secondly, he thanked the help of the comedian Matías Alonso and the actress Yanely, from "Clave de Ja", as well as all the media and the political class that has been interested in him in this last week.

"We from Aeuco want to say that this fight is not over. We will continue to face up to defend students whose rights are violated. And we hope that this has served so that in future occasions, many students who need this help do not see their future frustrated either by computer errors or by lack of funding to pursue a university degree," they have defended from the association.
