The President of the Canary Islands Government, Ángel Víctor Torres, has responded in the morning program of Radio Lanzarote-Onda Cero to issues such as the possible installation of marine cages in Lanzarote, housing problems, the lists of dependency or the recovery of the tourism sector.
Among the highlights, the regional leader stressed that "a new process of public exhibition" is opened to collect the allegations of "everyone" about the possible installation of marine cages on the coast of Playa Honda. Faced with this idea, the president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, María Dolores Corujo, has been against it.
Given the discomfort of the citizens for the development of the aquaculture industry in Lanzarote, the current Canarian president and candidate for re-election points out that "we must listen to the island society."
In this sense, the appeal presented by the Cabildo of Lanzarote for the imposition of cages in Playa Honda remains to be resolved. The organization understands that since 2018 it is in its hands to decide the distribution of aquaculture constructions around the island territory.
Housing
The President of the Canary Islands Government announced a week ago that 134 new social houses would be built in Maneje. As a fact, Ángel Víctor Torres reported that "almost three decades" had passed since the last time official protection housing was built on the island.
This Thursday, April 27, the approval of the new State Housing Law is proposed. With a tense and demanding housing market, Ángel Víctor Torres classifies this rule as "a brave law" that aims to "detente" rental prices and expand the public housing stock.
Poverty
Despite the progress, the Canary Islands continues to lead the country's poverty rates. The Canarian president reports that the decrease in these ratios is related to the implementation of the minimum living wage and the Canarian emergency income. "The four parameters improve compared to the year of the previous full government without a pandemic, without a tourist crisis and without volcanoes."
Tourism
Finally, Ángel Víctor Torres responded about the possibility of rethinking the tourism model. The Canarian president insists that "we must maintain how important tourism is, but transfer a different sustainable model."
Roads and Mobility
In addition, Torres spoke about sustainable mobility and the possibility of reducing private transport through public transport such as buses or the creation of trains on the capital islands.
