The candidates of CC and PSOE to the City Council of Haría, Marci Acuña and Alfredo Villalba, have defended the agreement that both have signed to govern together in the municipality. "We believed it was the best agreement," Acuña said, while the socialist pointed out that "the governability of the municipality is above all" and that the agreement with the Municipal Platform of Haría was "impossible."
In addition, although no one from the island leadership of the PSOE has attended the press conference in which both have presented the alliance -while CC's general secretary, Migdalia Machín, as well as other positions of the formation, has done so-, Alfredo Villalba has assured that he has the support of his party. "Yes, emphatically," said the one who will become the new mayor of the municipality in the coming days, who even assured that the agreement was "approved in the Executive and in the Island Committee" of the PSOE held this Wednesday.
"It is true that there were palpable differences with CC, but we have been able to put those differences aside," Villalba defended. "And obviously this agreement is not going to be to the liking of all the neighbors, but we have understood that above the differences is the governability," insisted the socialist, who understands that with this alliance "there are no winners or losers." "Uniquely and exclusively the people of Haría are at the head," he added.
"The disagreements with PMH were sufficiently discouraging"
Regarding why "it has been impossible" to seal an alliance with the Municipal Platform of Haría of José Torres Stinga, which Alfredo Villaba himself has recognized would have been "the natural agreement", the PSOE councilor did not want to go into details. "Going into details is not good either," Villalba pointed out, who nevertheless did point out that "the disagreements were sufficiently discouraging for that agreement to take place." "But we are here to talk about the agreement between CC and PSOE," he added
In this regard, the socialist thanked CC "for the ease it has put" to seal an alliance and, especially, the "kindness" of Marci Acuña. He also apologized to the residents of the municipality "for the delay" in reaching a majority in the municipality, but pointed out that "from now on" his intention is to give a definitive resolution to the conflict of the Cueva de los Verdes "quickly,"
Acuña, on whether he will repeat as mayor: "We do not know the turns of life"
For his part, Marci Acuña has confirmed that this Wednesday he already resigned from the Mayor's Office to facilitate Alfredo Villalba being invested as mayor under the agreement reached by which the PSOE and CC will take turns in the Mayor's Office, holding it for two years each. Specifically, as he explained, the plenary session of proclamation of the socialist as the first mayor of the municipality will be held next Friday, July 12, after another session is held on Tuesday to take note of Acuña's resignation as mayor, but not as councilor.
Regarding whether his intention is to regain the Mayor's Office in 2021, Acuña has indicated that "of course", although for this all his councilors would have to resign from office. "But we do not know the turns of life and politics," he said nevertheless later, stating that "there is no issue that prevents any of the CC councilors from being mayor" and that the only thing that has been established in the signed agreement is that "it is the representative designated by the political party."
An agreement "for the entire term" and "not subject to other institutions"
Likewise, the nationalist has insisted that the agreement sealed with the PSOE in Haría is "for the entire term", regardless "of the ups and downs that may occur in other institutions such as the Cabildo or the Government of the Canary Islands." "It is an agreement for Haría, not subject to other institutions," Marci Acuña asserted. "And we want it to be solid and that we have stability during the four years," he added.
According to the document that both candidates have signed, a monitoring table of the agreement will be created, which will be composed of Alfredo Villalba himself and the Secretary of Organization of the Local Committee of the PSOE in Haría, Tomás Rodríguez, while CC will be part of it Marci Acuña and Víctor Robayna.
