The Socialist Group in the Arrecife City Council has managed to get the Plenary to approve a motion urging the mayor, Yonathan de León, to immediately send to the Court of Accounts the legal report prepared by the municipal services themselves, which rules out the existence of accounting responsibility in the granting of social aid during the previous term.

From the PSOE they consider it "amazing" that, despite having since May a technical report that concludes that there was no damage to public coffers, nor malice, nor gross negligence, the mayor has continued with an unnecessary procedure, deliberately hiding this report from the supervisory body and discrediting the legal services of the institution.

"We are talking about social aid, of people who managed with responsibility and public commitment. What Yonathan de León has done is very serious: he has preferred to maintain his confrontation strategy, even knowing that there is no legal basis to support his accusation," denounced the councilor of the Socialist Group Cristina Duque.

Duque has questioned the double standard of the mayor: "What transparency is Yonathan de León talking about if he has hidden for almost three months a key municipal report that denies his insinuations? He has continued with the procedures only for partisan interests, damaging the image of the City Council itself and questioning the professionalism of its technicians."

Thanks to the motion promoted by the PSOE and the support of Coalición Canaria, the Plenary approved this Friday the requirement to send the report to the Court of Accounts. The PP and VOX, in an exercise of political follow-up, voted against.

"The mayor has shown that he does not care about Arrecife, nor the functioning of its institutions, nor the reputation of those who have worked for this city. He only cares about his own interests," concluded Cristina Duque, who has demanded that an end be put to the instrumental use of the City Council and that the institutional responsibility that the capital deserves be recovered.
