The Ministry of Health of the Government of the Canary Islands has confirmed a new case of the A/H1N1 influenza virus in the Islands. It is a man who suffers from a chronic underlying pathology who remains admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Insular Hospital in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.

This Saturday the person who died last Thursday in Gran Canaria was buried, a 41-year-old man who also suffered from a chronic pathology and who was affected by the H1N1 virus, the first fatal victim in the Archipelago and the second in Spain.

Currently, the Canary Islands has nine patients affected by the new flu virus.

The Health area of the Government of the Canary Islands insists in its public statement that it will offer information on confirmed cases once a week, until the National Public Health Commission decides on a common day for all regions. However, it adds that it will offer additional information if there is any serious case.
