The former President of the Government of Spain, José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero has defined Lanzarote as "one of the best discoveries" of his life: “Few places provide so much health, well-being and happiness.”

Zapatero has participated in an interview on the La Destiladera program of Radio Lanzarote-Onda Cero, where he analyzed the current situation of the island and its inhabitants, who, in his opinion, “are affable and calm", in addition to having a "good way of life."

Regarding Lanzarote, he highlighted that it has many strengths as a tourist destination, since the region has "a wardrobe that it takes care of like few others and that has been around for decades", thanks to the legacy of César Manrique and the locals, who have been "faithful legatees" of the artist's environmental commitment.

"When an area, a council or a region loves nature, it is spreading good practices and well-being for the population. That is the spirit I see in Lanzarote", Zapatero pointed out.

Good management of the pandemic and positive future prospects

Regarding the management of the pandemic and the economic recovery, the former president of the national executive praised the president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, María Dolores Corujo, indicating that he has closely followed her work, her concern for isolated people, for the elderly, "which has characterized the exit from the crisis on the island."

Based on this, he was optimistic about the future, venturing that "everything indicates that tourism after the pandemic is the economic sector with the best prospects."

He also concluded by encouraging people to take care of the island, to continue being a first-rate destination: “I say it here, I say it in Asia and I say it in Latin America... There are few places in the world like Lanzarote.”
