The Yaiza City Council presented this Friday the events with which it will commemorate the awarding of the title of Historical City in 2020. "The pandemic postponed the celebration last year, but now we can share this joy with the prudence that continues to govern the current situation," said the mayor, Óscar Noda, who described this recognition as "a well-deserved title that honors the municipality of Yaiza and the residents of all generations."

The opening of the program will take place this Saturday, September 11 with a historical and cultural event in the Plaza de La Alameda, where the Los Gofiones Group will perform, while the closing will be on Saturday, October 30, with the solemn presentation of the heraldic shield. "An act that, of course, also has a strong historical and cultural component and some surprise that the mayor preferred not to reveal for the moment," the City Council points out.

In the period of time between these two dates, all the commemorative events are organized, which citizens can consult with dates, locations and times on the cover of the municipal website www.yaiza.es.

In Yaiza, in the Rubicon, the recent history of the Canary Islands began, but there are many more arguments that over time make us deserving of the title of Historical City: the survival of the men and women of Yaiza who knew how to recover from the devastating volcanic eruptions of 1700 and the tireless work of all our people that has allowed us to become a benchmark municipality for culture, the environment and tourism over time, in short, it is a recognition of the identity of the municipality,” Óscar Noda told the press, accompanied by councilors from the Yaiza government.

After the municipal request and argumentation with the technical advice of María del Pino Fuentes de Armas, the Government of the Canary Islands confirmed the Decree of obtaining the title in April 2020, in full confinement, so the City Council had to postpone the events.

Óscar Noda highlighted this Friday that “the title adds to the promotion of the municipality and helps generate greater interest in its past and recent history, as well as in the archaeological treasures and heritage riches that our beautiful and historic territory holds”.
