The objective will be to analyze the situation of the tourist area and take measures to improve it, in relation to the "wave of robberies" in the commercial premises that have been registered in recent weeks and that has been denounced by the different associations of tourist businessmen and merchants.
Both political and police representatives have agreed on the need to strengthen ties in the coordination of the bodies that operate in the municipality to gain efficiency and have a greater presence in the streets in order to improve prevention and avoid the feeling of insecurity.
Operation Summer
On the other hand, the Government Delegation in the Canary Islands will reinforce security in the main tourist areas with 200 agents of the National Police Corps. The action called "Operation Summer" will be carried out in several autonomous communities, including the Canary Islands, and will end on September 30 in the areas with the highest tourist influx.
The objectives of the operation are to increase citizen security in tourist areas to prevent the increase in crime levels and attend more quickly and effectively to the victims of crimes. To this end, surveillance will be reinforced in hotel areas, on communication routes and in events in which there is a large influx of citizens.
Likewise, a series of operational measures are planned, including the reinforcement of police resources, the intensification of collaboration with the tourism sector, the implementation of measures to facilitate the identification of foreign citizens who suffer theft of documentation and the development of special devices.
