Tías is registering an "exponential increase" in the number of families at risk of eviction. This was stated by the mayor, José Juan Cruz, at a conference on decent housing and banking abuses that was held in the municipality and which was led by the platform of people affected by the AHINOR mortgage.

At the same, the existence of legal tools and mechanisms to avoid evictions was highlighted and the importance of demanding the application of the Code of Good Practices to financial entities was underlined. The conference was chaired by the mayor, José Juan Cruz, the Housing Councilor of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Rosa Callero, the Councilor for Social Services, Nicolás Saavedra, the president of AHINOR, Francisco Santana, the lawyer specializing in real estate law Andrés Roda, and the real estate advisor Carlos López.

José Juan Cruz highlighted the "exponential increase" in the municipality of the number of families at risk of eviction, cases that he said are being attended to thanks to the agreement with the Adsis Foundation. He also announced that the City Council will request, through an appeal, the inclusion of the municipality in the regional list of locations for the construction of social housing.

For her part, Rosa Callero offered the hand of the Cabildo of Lanzarote to the City Council of Tías and the AHINOR platform, “as well as to all the municipalities and associations”, to “work together and find a way, from another perspective, so that the aid provided by the institutions is effective”.

Regarding the Councilor for Social Services, Nicolás Saavedra, he emphasized the “worrying situation” of many families in the municipality of Tías who cannot pay the rent “and also of those small homeowners who are not receiving those rental payments and who cannot pay their mortgages or afford their day to day”.

This data was analyzed by the president of AHINOR, Francisco Santana, who highlighted “the incorporation of a new actor” in the housing problem, since in this new crisis “small owners who cannot pay have been added", whom he also said they attend to. "It is very important to maintain possession of the home,” he said.

Francisco Santana stated that we are facing a “financial tsunami”, since “right now in the Canary Islands we have 35,000 housing applicants”. “We try to offer the experience we have and alleviate the economic burden of those affected. It is a right that we have and we act on the fly to avoid the execution of the eviction,” he added.

Both Francisco Santana, Andrés Roda and Carlos López valued that administrations such as the Tías City Council and the Cabildo of Lanzarote offer attention to people with housing payment problems and advised those affected to “not stand still and consult”.

The three underlined the figure of the application of the Code of Good Practices in financial entities, which can be required by those affected in procedures related to mortgages, rentals, abusive clauses, etc. Those interested can contact the association through the telephone 648 088 751 or the email ahinor.asociacion@gmail.com
