The Multisectoral Association of Spanish Electronics and Communications Companies (ASIMELEC), which groups together, among other companies, the main manufacturers and operators of portable telephony, in collaboration with the Canarian company Hiperdino and the support of the Ministry of the Environment and Territorial Planning of the Government of the Canary Islands, has launched this week throughout the Archipelago the Tragamóvil initiative for the collection and recycling of mobile phone waste.

Yesterday, the Hiperdino in Valterra hosted the presentation of the campaign on the Island with the attendance of the regional director of the company, Juan Bautista Milagro, and Julio Lema, commercial director of Environmental Foundations of Asimelec.

This campaign, designed and carried out by the Association since 2001 throughout the national territory, will be developed in the Canary Islands indefinitely from this month of June thanks to the agreement signed with Hiperdino, through which collection points for mobile phone waste will be established in several centers of this supermarket chain on the Island. In this way, mobile phone users will be able to easily and conveniently dispose of damaged or unused terminals.

Thanks to this project, citizens will be able to improve the environment by depositing the old terminal and its accessories in these centers for later collection and recycling. To this end, the chain's customers will be provided with specific containers for depositing waste that Asimelec will collect periodically. This Association will also be responsible for its transport from the shopping center to the treatment plant for selection.

Once classified, the fractions of terminals and chargers undergo a recycling process through shredding. For their part, the batteries are delivered to a waste manager to undergo a specific process. Once this phase is completed, secondary raw materials are obtained that will be included back in the production cycle.
