The Councilor for Festivities of the Tías City Council, Sergio García, has denied that the Three Kings parade of La Tiñosa disappears, thus denying CC, which has even started a collection of signatures. "It does not disappear at all, it only changes in schedule and route", the mayor assured.
"Let the people of La Tiñosa not worry, let them not be carried away by misunderstandings. The parade is going to be held and it will be in the morning taking advantage of the fact that it is a holiday, because it falls on a Sunday", García pointed out, who stated that the only thing in which CC tells the truth is that "the Three Wise Men will arrive by boat at the Varadero dock".
"But there a whole entourage of cartoon characters, their camels and batucadas will be waiting for them, and from there the parade will begin," he said.
"An opportunity for children to enjoy a double illusion"
According to the mayor, it was "the few employees" in the Department of Festivities and Culture, as well as "the associations and groups that normally participate in the Three Kings parades in both Tías and Puerto del Carmen and even the Local Police", who suggested making changes "to avoid" the parades of Tías and Puerto del Carmen coinciding "in time", as both have been held in the afternoon.
"Because in Tías it started around seven in the afternoon and in Puerto del Carmen immediately afterwards, but that immediately afterwards was relative, because without finishing the one in Tías, the one in La Tiñosa was already starting, which meant being in a hurry, running from one place to another, being in two parades, six wise men, six camels, streets closed in Tías, in La Tiñosa... So, we decided to do something different and we decided to do the La Tiñosa parade in the morning," said Sergio García.
Thus, in addition to avoiding "a double effort" and "double the staff", the Councilor for Festivities believes that children are given the opportunity "to enjoy a double illusion, since they can enjoy a Three Kings parade twice in the same day, being in the morning in La Tiñosa and in the afternoon in Tías".
The Santa Claus parade does disappear "due to lack of budget"
What will disappear this year, according to Sergio García, will be the traditional Santa Claus parade along Avenida de Las Playas. "Due to lack of budget, it will not be done," said the mayor, who stated that the Tourism, Festivities and Culture budget is "completely exhausted". "I would even dare to say that we owe money and then we had to cut back," he pointed out.
"Anyway, the Santa Claus theme is not completely eliminated," García pointed out, who assured that "during several days of the weeks prior to the 25th", there will be Santa Clauses "on the beaches and in the avenue area sharing and spending time with tourists".
Regarding the switching on of the Christmas lights, he explained that it will take place on December 3 together with the inauguration of the Tías Nativity Scene, while the Puerto del Carmen Nativity Scene will be inaugurated on the 10th.
