The Management of Health Services of the Lanzarote Health Area has welcomed this Tuesday the 25 new residents who begin their Specialized Health Training at the Doctor José Molina Orosa University Hospital, the Insular Hospital and the Primary Care Centers of the island.

The new internal resident specialists will be trained in different specialties such as Family and Community Medicine, Pediatrics, Geriatrics, Internal Medicine and, for the first time, the Molina Orosa Hospital offers training in the specialty of Orthopedic Surgery and Traumatology, after being accredited last year by the Ministry of Health.

As for the Nursing residents, three will be trained as midwives, three will do so in the specialty of Pediatric Nursing, four in Family and Community Medicine and two as specialist nurses in Geriatrics.

With the incorporation of the new residents, the Health Department points out that the Lanzarote Health Management trains 68 specialists under the supervision of the tutors designated for each of the specialties and the collaboration of the entire health structure. The training process for residents lasts between two and five years, depending on the specialty they are pursuing.

Theoretical, practical and research training

The Ministry of Health points out that from now on, and for the duration of the residency, the new health professionals receive theoretical-practical training while carrying out healthcare activity in health centers and developing research tasks. Residents deal transversally with skills related to communication, resource management and, specifically, advanced intervention skills in the different areas of healthcare practice.

The manager of the Lanzarote Health Services, José Luis Aparicio, and the head of training, Verónica Gutiérrez, welcomed the residents at an event that took place in the Insular Library and was attended by health professionals from hospitals and Primary Care centers to welcome the new specialists.

During the event, the manager stressed the importance of the role played by the new health professionals who "during the next few years will be part of our health centers and our hospitals and will contribute to strengthening the teams that provide healthcare."

For its part, the Teaching Unit reminded them that "they will have the support of the tutors who will guide them in this new stage and help them solve any difficulty that may arise in their day to day life."
