The committee designated by the organization of the Lanzarote Film Festival (MCL) has selected 25 short films to compete in the Canarian Short Film Competition. The contest aims to "make known to the island's society the work done by our filmmakers and that will contribute to enrich the audiovisual heritage of the Archipelago with its diversity of styles, intentions and perspectives", they say from the first institution.
The selected works have been chosen following the criteria of cinematographic interest of the short film, artistic quality and human content, together with the ability to encourage learning in ethical, social and cultural values.
These short films that will participate in the contest have been made during 2008 and 2009 and are directed by Canarians or filmed in the islands. As stated in the rules of the contest, the duration is not more than 15 minutes and have not been exhibited in the previous edition of the MCL. In addition, the winning short film will be chosen by a jury designated by the organization and will receive a cash prize of 1000 euros.
The screenings will take place in the Buñuel Room of the Insular Cultural Center El Almacén between March 23 and 27, at a rate of five short films per day, which will be interspersed with the short films competing in the National Short Films category.
