The prominent and veteran journalist Pascual Calabuig currently lives in the municipality of Yaiza since he discovered Playa Blanca as a tourist destination in the seventies. His relationship with the town has led him to be invited by the Municipal Corporation, presided over by José Francisco Reyes, to read the official proclamation of the main festivals of the southern municipality.

Calabuig, who has been director of the Sports area of ​​Televisión Española in the Canary Islands, will be in charge of kicking off, at the Benito Pérez Armas Cultural Center from half past nine, the festivals that are celebrated in honor of the Virgen de los Remedios.

At the end of the declamation, a photographic exhibition made by the members of the Association of Photographers of Lanzarote will be inaugurated. Among the scheduled events, the IX Edition of the Seguidilla Festival "Víctor Fernández Gopar" stands out, which will take place this Friday, the popular Romería de Los Remedios, or the IV Encuentro de Música El Desafío with the special performance for the first time in the Canary Islands of the rock group Savia, which will be on Saturday, September 9.

The big day in Yaiza, on September 8, after the solemn procession, the young woman from Lanzarote, Isabel Hernández, winner of the Yaiza Song Festival 2005, and the mythical group Los Diablos will perform. All this will be until next September 8, when a Fireworks Castle will put an end to the festivities.
