The Great Ape Project has culminated a struggle of several years, where an intense media campaign and denunciations have been developed that has culminated with the transfer of the chimpanzee Guillermo to the great ape sanctuary of Rainfer, in Madrid.

The Great Ape Project, an international organization whose fundamental objective is to ensure that part of the basic rights that currently only human beings enjoy - to life, to freedom and not to be physically or psychologically abused - are granted by the United Nations to great apes (chimpanzees, gorillas, orangutans and bonobos) to prevent their almost imminent extinction from the planet.

After an intense campaign of several years for the liberation of Guillermo, the chimpanzee captive in a cage of 2 x 2 meters in a house in La Orotava, Tenerife, has finally been transferred to the great ape sanctuary of Rainfer in Madrid, where he will have much more space outdoors, with land, with platforms and trees to climb and with others of his own species.

Paco González, delegate in the Canary Islands of the Project, has stated that this new release is added to that of a year and a half ago in Gran Canaria, "when the chimpanzees Lulú, Lucas and Kiko were taken out of filthy cages, which confirms that thanks to the effort of many aware people, very important achievements can be made for the preservation and well-being of great apes in freedom and captivity".

The entity thanks the organizations, companies, media and private individuals who have contributed to the liberation of Guillermo, as well as all those who have sent letters and emails of protest to the institutions responsible for the terrible situation of the chimpanzee.
