The former mayor of Arrecife, Elizabeth de León Expósito, will be in charge of giving the opening speech of the San Ginés 2017 Festivities, as announced by the capital's City Council. The opening speech will take place on Friday, August 11, at 8:30 p.m. in the Municipal Market, and will be enlivened with a timple concert by Alexis Lemes.

Elizabeth de León was the first female mayor of the municipality. Born in Arrecife in 1953, she is the fifth of six siblings. She studied primary school at La Destila school, at the Agustín Espinosa institute and at the Blas Cabrera Felipe. Later, she studied Medicine at La Laguna, working as a doctor at the health center until today.

In addition to the opening speech, the San Ginés 2017 Festivities will feature the Rock Festival, the Habaneras and Folkloric Meeting, the Election of Queen of the Festivities gala, children's workshops and sports activities. The Beni Ferrer concert in the Aguaresío and the Rosana concert on Reducto Beach are just some of the events presented this year in the program of the San Ginés celebrations, which will take place from the 11th to the 25th of this month.

Regarding the religious events, it should be noted that on Friday, August 25, the main day of the patron saint festivities, the Solemn Eucharist will take place, which will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. The act will be presided over by the Reverend Nicanor Bermúdez Páez, parish priest of San Vicente Ferrer in Valleseco. In the musical part, the Canarian mass of Luis Prieto will be performed, by the Arrecife choir and instrumental collaboration. Next, the procession will be held through the streets of the city, with the venerated image of San Ginés Obispo, accompanied by the music band.
