After two days of protests, the students of the CEO Ignacio Aldecoa of La Graciosa have entered class this Wednesday after the arrival of the tenured professor who was yet to be appointed by the Ministry of Education.

As confirmed by the island director of Education, Celeste Callero, it was this Tuesday when the appointment of the professor took place, who this Wednesday has already joined his job in the eighth island, where Callero herself has also moved.

It was the parents of the students of the CEO Ignacio Aldecoa who decided on Monday, at the beginning of the school year, that their children would not enter class, due to the lack of appointment of a tenured professor and despite the fact that the Ministry of Education had sent a substitute until the appointment took place.

"We celebrate that after the claim of the families and the support of the Government group of Teguise this demand is satisfied, and we insist that the residents of La Graciosa will never give up in the fight for the recognition of the specificities of the eighth island", said the delegate councilor of La Graciosa, Alicia Páez, who wanted to congratulate the parents of the students of the center "for vehemently demanding compliance with their word to the Government of the Canary Islands, which promised that the same number of teachers as the previous year would be maintained, and that until this uncomfortable situation has arrived, it has not taken action on the matter"

For his part, the mayor of Teguise, Oswaldo Betancort, has reiterated his congratulations to the parents, "who have lived up to the circumstances defending a quality education for their center with the necessary teachers." "The Government group will not lower its guard regarding the proper functioning of the educational center of the newly recognized eighth island in the Statute of Autonomy of the Canary Islands", added Betancort, who nevertheless is pleased that "the collaboration of the regional government in maintenance and conservation works has been exquisite."
