The César Manrique Foundation (FCM) received this Sunday the Gold Medal of the Canary Islands, which has been granted by the regional government. The award ceremony, which was attended by the president of the FCM, José Juan Ramírez, took place during the institutional event that, on the occasion of Canary Islands Day, was held at the Guimerá Theater in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, and was presided over by the president of the Canary Islands Government, Ángel Víctor Torres.
At the ceremony, it was recalled that the César Manrique Foundation (FCM) was established by the artist from Lanzarote himself in 1983, although it began its journey in 1992. It is based in the artist's former home, in Taro de Tahíche, and its objectives, set out in its statutes, are to preserve, study and disseminate the work and artistic legacy of César Manrique; promote exhibitions, studies and initiatives that address the relationship between art and nature; develop activities that favor both the conservation of the natural environment and its sustainable transformation and land management, particularly in Lanzarote and the Canary Islands, and promote intellectual, creative and critical thinking.
"César Manrique was a pioneer in sustainability and respect for the natural ecosystems of the Archipelago. He has been an example for all, whose teachings his Foundation helps to preserve and disseminate," the Government of the Canary Islands highlighted during the award ceremony.
"A universal artist, following in his wake, the people of the Canary Islands continue to advance on a path that is also a commitment: to stop climate change, protect our environment and grow more fairly in social terms, more solidarily in economic terms and more sustainably in the territory," he added.

This year, the Canary Islands Health Service, the Scientific Committee for Health Emergency against Covid-19, the Red Cross, Naviera Armas, the Association of Olive Oil Producers of Fuerteventura (Olivafuer), the Romancero Gomero, the lawyers Fernando and Joaquín Quino-Sagaseta, Carla Suárez and the series 'Hierro' also received the Gold Medal of the Canary Islands.

At the event, the president of the Government of the Canary Islands pointed out that the award winners in 2021 are "a perfect example of people or institutions that make this Archipelago of eight islands greater." It is a pride for the people of the Canary Islands that the history of the Islands continues to be written with their names", he stated.
